Scott Dodgson is a novelist, essayist, short story writer, critic, and longtime sailor.
His fiction and nonfiction are shaped by an abiding interest in memory, place, history, artistic consciousness, travel, inheritance, and the manner in which individual lives become part of larger cultural histories.
His work moves between the intimate and the historical. Families, landscapes, weather, migration, war, art, music, and the sea recur throughout his writing, not as background but as active forms of consciousness.
Dodgson’s recent work has increasingly explored what he describes as the salon tradition in literature: fiction capacious enough to hold narrative, memory, philosophy, cultural history, sensuality, digression, and reflection within the same imaginative structure.
His essays on writing examine narration, syntax, literary form, repetition, point of view, transference, reader participation, and the relationship between the contemporary writing workshop and the broader European salon tradition.
His work has appeared in Live Encounters and other literary venues. He is also the author of numerous novels, short stories, essays, and works concerned with the sea and the long life of memory.
